Our mission is to instill and encourage a higher order understanding of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology in undergraduate students at the University of Florida and to advance the field of science at large.

Members

Lauren Douma, Ph.D.

Faculty Advisor

Dr. Douma is a Research Assistant Professor in the Department of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology. She earned her B.S. in Biology with a minor in Chemistry and Psychology at Nova Southeastern University and her Ph.D. in Genetics and Genomics at the University of Florida. She studies circadian clock regulation of kidney gene expression and is passionate about undergraduate science education.

Shubh Patel

President

Shubh is a 4th year Microbiology and Cell Science major. In the future, he hopes to pursue an MD-PhD and bridge basic science and clinical approaches to medicine. He believes medicine is a science, and having a strong basic science understanding offers a different perspective that can truly lead to innovation in the field.

Stephen Pflug

Vice President

Stephen is a 4th year Biochemistry major with a minor in Music Performance. He is currently applying for optometry school with hopes of becoming an optometrist.

Kristen Nethercott

Secretary

Kristen is a 4th year Microbiology and Cell Science major on the pre-med track. She is a TA for Dr. Douma's biochemistry & molecular biology course and is interested in the intersection between biochemistry and medicine.

Rashid Shammas

Tech-Director

Rashid is a 4th year Business Administration major with familial ties to pediatrics. He is a candidate for the Information Systems and Operations Management Masters Program at the University of Florida. He is passionate about information security in the healthcare space and hopes to have a career in the field.

Biochemistry & Molecular Biology Club is dedicated to promoting academic union, outreach, and career development among undergraduate students interested in fields pertaining to biochemistry, molecular biology, and its integrative disciplines.
